how the heck did we get here??

Hello and welcome! If you are new here, my name is Haley and I am truly happy that you are here. ( IYKYK – I’m probably smiling) I am a southern girl, born and raised in the Low country of South Carolina, where God completely changed my life and direction at the age of 17. How I ended up starting a business as a blogger (18 years later) is quite a doozy of twists and turns, but if you are up for a good story, then get cozy – because I’d love to share it with you.

Let me just start by saying the whole reason I’m here is to encourage you to FIX YOUR EYES ON JESUS because your hope, and your joy, and your peace ARE NOT dependent on your circumstances but rather in the living God. You can have an eternal perspective and purpose every. single. day. of your everyday life – even if the circumstances around you never change

Now that that’s out of the way, I’ll cut to the chase and let you know there is – NO way – I could possibly condense our journey to this point into an “about” page. I’d have to write a book. I mean, we are talking: A Damascus road conversion. Several thousands of miles of moving, and moving, and moving…..and moving. Multiple countries, and continents.

And College – Like, 8 years of college. Add to the mix, full time ministry in bush Alaska. Complete gut-job house flipping. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 kids! And just all around cloth-diapering-chicken-hatching-home-schooling-garden-planting-good times!

Y’all, we even lived full-time in a camper WITH KIDS [before it was cool!]

I think it’s safe to say, life has been FULL and so. so. good. But it hasn’t always been easy. Rarely is it easy. There are always the normal difficulties of college, kids, moving, marriage, community, and ministry (and don’t even get me started on home renovations). But then there are also the stop-you-in-your-tracks, “how do we get past this” moments of just plain suffering.

No one skates through life and avoids suffering. So – just like you – I’ve had my share, and will surely continue to.

Like  losing those closest to me to drugs and alcohol.

Or the traumatic miscarriage of our little girl, Josie, that landed me in the hospital for an emergency surgery to save my life.

Or hearing the ER doctor say, “We aren’t equipped to help your son”, then riding in an ambulance for hours, only to wait for 10 days as surgeons tried to save him – and for what? A water bead??

No, in this world one thing is for sure,

“we will have trouble.”

But the good news is,

“God has overcome the world.”

“And whatever is born of God overcomes the world”

My prayer – and the whole reason I’ll keep showing up here – is that you would know – and I would be reminded – that:

“You are from God, little children, and have overcome them;

because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.

This is the victory that has overcome the world–our faith.”

Often in life the only things that needs to change is our perspective.

Then, our perspective changes everything.

So, whether I’m sharing a peek into our everyday lives and projects, digging into God’s word, or whipping up a meal for my family – I want to do it with eternity in mind. And I want to encourage and inspire you to do the same.
